Thinners, Hardeners & Activators
Components of paint and coating systems: activators (hardeners), thinners and reducers. Almost all products are from PPG Aerospace (Desothane HS CA8000 activators and thinners, CA8800 reducers, epoxy and polyurethane thinners), alongside AkzoNobel and Zip-Chem. Each activator and thinner is formulated for a specific paint system; the correct match and mix ratio are given in the TDS. MIL-T-81772 is a frequently requested specification for aircraft coating thinners.

Questions we are asked most
Can a thinner from another system be used?
Not recommended. A mismatched thinner or activator can impair cure, gloss, adhesion and chemical resistance. Use the components specified in the TDS.
When are fast and slow thinners used?
Depending on temperature and humidity: slow thinners in warm conditions and fast thinners in cold conditions balance flow and cure. Options are listed in the product TDS.
