LOCTITE® 425™ is a fast curing, low strength cyanoacrylate adhesive designed for locking metal and plastic fasteners. It can be applied before or after assembly. It cures quickly on plated metal and plastic fasteners; fixturing is achieved in less than 2 minutes and full strength within 24 hours. It is commonly used for tamperproofing screw heads and potentiometers. It is a one-part, low viscosity, dark blue ethyl cyanoacrylate liquid that cures with atmospheric moisture. Fixture speed can be increased with a cyanoacrylate activator such as LOCTITE 7113™. Its typical operating range is −54 to 85 °C.
Typical Properties
- Specific gravity (25 °C) 1.1; viscosity (Brookfield LVF, 25 °C) 40–80 mPa·s
- Volume and surface resistivity above 1 x 10¹⁵ (Ω·cm / Ω); dielectric breakdown strength 19.7 kV/mm
- After 24 hours (22 °C, untorqued zinc plated fasteners): 10-32 breakaway torque 0.36 N·m; 3/8 x 24 breakaway and prevail torque 1.1–8.5 N·m
Use and Storage
- Surfaces should be clean and free from grease; it is suited to thin bond gaps (0.05 mm)
- Excess adhesive can be dissolved with Loctite cleanup solvents, nitromethane or acetone
- Not for use in pure oxygen or oxygen rich systems or with chlorine or strong oxidizing materials
- Store unopened in a dry place at 2–8 °C
