LOCTITE® 460™ is a low odour, one-component alkoxyethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive, particularly suited where vapour control is difficult. It provides rapid bonding of a wide range of substrates including plastics, metals and elastomers, and is also suited to porous and absorbent materials such as wood, paper and leather. It is a transparent, colourless to straw coloured, low viscosity liquid that cures with atmospheric moisture. Functional strength develops quickly; cure continues for 24 hours, when chemical and solvent resistance is reached.
Typical Properties
- Specific gravity (25 °C) 1.1; viscosity (cone and plate, 25 °C) 25–55 mPa·s
- Fixture time (22 °C, 50% RH): steel 10–30 s, aluminium 5–10 s, ABS, neoprene, nitrile rubber, phenolic and paper below 5 s, polycarbonate 10–20 s, wood (pine) 20–30 s
- Lap shear after 72 hours (ISO 4587): grit blasted steel 21, abraded aluminium 18, ABS 7.9, polycarbonate 7.7 N/mm²
- Tensile strength after 24 hours (ISO 6922, steel pins) 30 N/mm²
Use
- Best cure is achieved at 22 °C and 40–60% relative humidity; lower humidity slows cure, higher humidity speeds it but may reduce final strength
- In large gaps an activator increases cure speed; as it may reduce final strength, testing is recommended
