Araldite AW 106

Araldite® AW 106 / Hardener HV 953 U is a multipurpose, two-component, room temperature curing epoxy paste adhesive of high strength and toughness. It bonds metals, ceramics, glass, rubber, rigid plastics and most other materials in common use. It has a long working life, low shrinkage and good resistance to dynamic loading.

Application Properties

• AW 106 neutral, HV 953 U and mix pale yellow; specific gravity of mix approx. 1.05
• Viscosity (25 °C) AW 106 30–50 Pa·s, HV 953 U 20–35 Pa·s, mix 30–45 Pa·s
• Mix ratio (AW 106 : HV 953 U) by weight 100:80, by volume 100:100; pot life (100 g, 25 °C) approx. 100 min
• An adhesive layer of 0.05–0.10 mm gives the greatest lap shear strength

Cure Times

• To 1 MPa lap shear: 7 hours at 23 °C, 2 hours at 40 °C, 30 min at 60 °C, 6 min at 100 °C
• To 10 MPa lap shear: 10 hours at 23 °C, 3 hours at 40 °C, 45 min at 60 °C, 7 min at 100 °C

Cured Properties (cured 16 hours at 40 °C)

• Roller peel (ISO 4578) 5 N/mm; glass transition temperature approx. 45 °C
• Flexural strength 60.4 MPa; flexural modulus 1904.1 MPa (ISO 178)
• Dielectric strength (50 Hz) instantaneous 25–27 kV/mm; water absorption (23 °C, 24 hours) 0.8%

Storage

• Up to 6 years in sealed containers; the expiry date is on the label
