Hernon® Ultrabond 740 is a UV-curing adhesive formulated for bonding glass to glass or glass to metal, and is also excellent for bonding, tacking and potting many parts. It provides an excellent bond, high light transmittance and a refractive index like glass, and cures to a dry, hard surface under high-intensity UV light.
Typical Applications
- Bonding glass to glass; potting; wire tacking; coating
Typical Properties
- Resin: modified acrylic; appearance: clear liquid; specific gravity 1.02; refractive index 1.476
- Viscosity at 25 °C: 6000–7300 cP
- Cured: hardness 55–70 Shore D; tensile strength 3400 psi; elongation at break 32%; shrinkage ≤1%
- Temperature range −55 to 121 °C (−65 to 250 °F)
Curing and Performance
- UV (365 nm): tack free ≤10 s with a US 1000 lamp at ½ in, ≤20 s with LED9 at ¼ in; glass/glass fixture time ≤10 s
- Block shear (ASTM D4501, UV 30 s + 24 hours at 22 °C): glass to glass 500 psi, glass to steel 100 psi
- Recommended intensity at the bondline at least 40 mW/cm²; ≥100 mW/cm² for dry curing of exposed surfaces
Use and Storage
- Light sensitive; dispense from applicators with black feed lines; check plastics for stress-cracking risk
- Not for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems
- 7–29 °C (45–85 °F) in unopened containers
