LOCTITE® 574™ is an anaerobic sealant that seals close fitting joints between rigid metal faces and flanges. It cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces and resists low pressures immediately after assembly of flanges. It is typically used as a form-in-place gasket on rigid flanged connections such as gearbox and engine casings. Its thixotropic nature reduces migration of the product after application. It is an orange, medium strength, one-component dimethacrylate ester paste that fluoresces under UV light.
Typical Properties
- Specific gravity (25 °C) 1.1; viscosity (Brookfield RVT, 25 °C) 70,000–120,000 mPa·s at 2.5 rpm, 23,000–35,000 mPa·s at 20 rpm
- After 24 hours (22 °C): compressive shear strength (steel pins and collars) min 6.0 N/mm²; lap shear (grit blasted steel) 8.5 N/mm²; tensile strength 5 N/mm²
- Coefficient of thermal expansion 80 x 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹; thermal conductivity 0.1 W/(m·K)
Use
- Where cure speed is too slow or gaps are large, use Activator 7471™ or 7649™
