LOCTITE® 601 is a one-component, high strength, anaerobic retaining compound designed for bonding cylindrical fitting parts, particularly where low viscosity is required. It cures when confined in the absence of air between two metal surfaces, prevents loosening under shock and vibration and provides sealing. It is a green dimethacrylate ester liquid that fluoresces under UV light. Where cure speed is too slow or gaps are large, secondary cure is achieved with Activator 7471™ or 7649™.
Typical Properties
- Specific gravity (25 °C) 1.1; viscosity (Brookfield RVT, spindle 1, 20 rpm) 100–150 mPa·s
- After 24 hours (M10 steel nuts and bolts) breakaway torque 15–40 N·m; prevail torque 25–50 N·m
- Pre-torqued to 5 N·m: breakloose torque 40–60 N·m; max prevail torque 40–60 N·m
- Compressive shear strength on steel pins and collars at least 15 N/mm² (ISO 10123)
Use
- Not for use in pure oxygen or oxygen rich systems or with chlorine or strong oxidizing materials; not recommended on plastics
- For disassembly, heat the joint locally to about 250 °C and disassemble while hot
