Armite molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) petrolatum anti-seize compound is manufactured to conform to Military Specification MIL-PRF-83483D. With excellent lubricity and high load capacity, it is particularly suitable for aircraft spark plugs and threaded fasteners and fittings at temperatures below 427 °C (800 °F). It is water resistant and lead free, lowers friction and wrench torque, and permits re-use of fittings.
Applications
- Gaskets, slides, flange faces, fasteners, frame bolts, spark plugs and valve stems
Typical Properties
- NLGI grade approx. 2–4; colour dark grey; penetration at 25 °C 170–260
- Melting point 130 °F; specific gravity 1.44; additive MoS₂
- Flash point 249 °C (480 °F); auto-ignition point >260 °C (500 °F)
- Service range −54 to 427 °C (−65 to 800 °F)
Important Notes
- At 538 °C (1000 °F) and above, MoS₂ may induce hot corrosion of the fastener or contiguous materials; avoid use at these temperatures
- Not a substitute for sealing compounds (pipe joint and thread) conforming to TT-S-1732
