Sandstrom LC-300 is a lead-free, graphite-free, lacquer-like heat-cured molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) dry film lubricant. It prevents corrosion, galling and wear and provides long wear life when operated at −196 to 204 °C (−320 to +400 °F) under loads exceeding 100,000 psi. Once heat cured, it is virtually unaffected by atmospheric and fretting corrosion, solvents, acids, oils and degreasers and does not re-soften at elevated temperatures. It can be applied by brush, dip, dip spin or spray. It is qualified to SAE AS5272 Type I and Type II; the same wet coating meets either type depending on the bake temperature.
Curing
- AS5272 Type I (optimum corrosion protection): bake 1 hour at 149 °C (300 °F)
- AS5272 Type II (optimum wear life): bake 1 hour at 204 °C (400 °F)
- The hour begins when the part reaches oven temperature
Typical Properties (Type I / Type II)
- Wear life (ASTM D2625A) 298 / 483 min; load-carrying capacity (ASTM D2625B) 2500–3000 / 3000 lbf
- Type I coefficient of friction 0.09 (ISO 16047)
- Colour: flat dark grey; coverage 625 sq ft/gal at 0.5 mil dry film
- D169 thinner for spraying (starting point 2 parts LC-300 : 1 part thinner)
Surface Preparation and Storage
- Clean the surface to pass ASTM F22; abrasive blast with 180–220 grit aluminium oxide
- Store below 38 °C (100 °F); shelf life 12 months from manufacture
