BT-68 is a daylight visible, solvent removable red penetrant spray (Type 2, Method C, Level 2). It has high penetrating and wetting properties and allows quick, simple evaluation without electricity or additional equipment. It detects surface-breaking discontinuities in all metals, synthetic plastics, ceramics and glass: cold and hot cracks, grinding and fatigue cracks, porosity, slag inclusions and incomplete weld penetration in castings, forgings and welds, pressure vessels, automotive parts, tubular products and leak testing. It contains no NPE, phthalates or azo dyes and has very low toxicity and odour.
Typical Properties
- Red liquid; density (25 °C) 0.85 g/mL; viscosity 10.8 mm²/s; flash point above 95 °C
- Insoluble in water, soluble in strong organic solvents
Use and Storage
- Clean the surface with BT-69 cleaner; apply BT-68 from 25–30 cm to cover the whole surface and allow 5–60 min dwell
- Wipe off excess penetrant with a soft cloth moistened with BT-69; spray BT-70 developer as a thin, even film; cracks appear red
- 500 mL product in a 650 mL can, 12 per case; 3 years at +5 to +45 °C
