PPG Desothane® HS CA8000B is the activator (curing agent) for Desothane® HS CA8000 high-solids polyurethane topcoats, used with a CA8000C series reducer selected for the required pot life and drying speed.
CA8000 System
- Desothane® HS CA8000 is a high-solids, low-VOC polyurethane topcoat for aircraft exteriors, applied over Desoprime™ epoxy primers; service temperature −54 °C to 177 °C
- Qualified to AIMS 04-04-012/-013/-025/-031/-032, AMS 3095, BMS 10-60 T2, BMS 10-72 T8, BMS 10-125, BAMS 565-002/-009, MSRR 1006 and others; meets MIL-PRF-85285 performance requirements
- Mix ratio by volume: CA8000 base 2 parts : CA8000B activator 1 part : CA8000C series reducer 1 part; do not adjust viscosity
Application
- Pot life at 21–25 °C: 3 hours with CA8000C, 2 hours with C1, 1.5 hours with C2, 1 hour with C3
- Apply at 15–35 °C and 20–90% RH in 2–3 coats to 50–75 µm dry film; gloss ≥90 GU at 60°
- Theoretical coverage 9–10 m²/L at 60 µm; mixed VOC <420 g/L; allow 48 hours before flight when repainting aircraft

- Flash point: 47 °C (117 °F); VOC 110 g/L
- Shelf life 24 months in original unopened container; store at 5–35 °C
