PPG Z-6160 is a sprayable, peelable preservation coating to protect plastic, metal, porcelain and painted surfaces during in-plant fabrication, operation, shipping and storage. It is a water-borne, chrome-free single component coating, nonflammable in liquid form and supplied ready to use. It is corrosion resistant, has a low heavy metals content, is suitable for use on nuclear equipment and offers a 12 month service life for indoor or outdoor storage. It can be overcoated with Z-6148 preservation topcoat for added exterior durability.

Typical Properties

Application
- Apply to oil and dirt free substrates; recommended conditions: 15–30 °C (59–86 °F), 20–90% relative humidity
- Indoor storage: minimum 100 µm (4 mil) dry film in one coat
- Outdoor storage: 200 µm (8 mil) dry film in two coats, 1 hour between coats; once the film has lost its gloss, overcoat with 2 mil of Z-6148 topcoat
Cure
- At 22–28 °C (71–84 °F): time between coats 1 hour; full cure 16 hours
Packaging and Shelf Life
- 12 months from date of manufacture in original unopened containers
- Storage: 13–32 °C (55–90 °F); never allow to freeze; properties of frozen material are not warranted
