PPG PR-2200 Class B is an electrically conductive, rapid cure, corrosion inhibitive sealant. Service temperature is −55 to 121 °C (−67 to 250 °F), with intermittent excursions up to 182 °C (360 °F). The cured sealant provides excellent electrical conductivity and EMI/RFI shielding effectiveness, acts as a barrier against corrosion on aluminium alloys or between dissimilar metals, and resists jet fuel and aviation gas. It is a two-part, nickel filled, epoxy cured PERMAPOL® P-3.1 polythioether; the low sag, thixotropic paste is applied by extrusion gun or spatula. It has excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates when correctly primed with PR-182 adhesion promoter.
Application Properties (Boeing St. Louis MMS-327 test methods)
- Colour: Part A black, Part B grey, mixed black; mix ratio by weight A:B 6.58:100
- Slump (B-1): initial 12.7 mm, 12.7 mm at 50 minutes, 10.16 mm at 90 minutes
- B-1 (25 °C, 50% RH): application life 1 hour; tack free under 5 hours; 30 Shore A in 6 hours
Performance (cured 7 days at 25 °C)
- Specific gravity 1.98; non-volatile content 97%; ultimate hardness 75 Shore A
- Shear strength 185 psi; tensile strength 180 psi; elongation 100%; volume shrinkage 7%
- Electrical contact resistance 0.16 ohm; volume resistivity 0.20 ohm·cm (0.20 after 7 days at 121 °C; 0.35 after JRF immersion)
- No corrosion or significant change of conductivity after 2,000 hours salt spray; no cracking at −54 °C
Application and Storage
- Apply PR-182 in a uniform thin coat and dry 30 minutes (not recommended below 7 °C); apply the sealant within 8 hours
- Two-part Semkit® or pre-mixed frozen cartridges
- Semkit: at least 9 months below 27 °C (80 °F) in unopened containers; frozen cartridges maximum 30 days at or below −62 °C (−80 °F)
