PPG PS 870 Class A is a two-part, manganese dioxide cured, corrosion inhibitive polysulfide sealant tested to MIL-PRF-81733 Type I methods. It acts as a barrier against corrosion on aluminium alloys and between dissimilar metals. A-1/2 denotes a 1/2-hour application life.
Features
- Service temperature -54 to 121 °C (-65 to 250 °F), intermittent to 135 °C (275 °F)
- Remains elastomeric after limited exposure to jet fuel and aviation gasoline
- Brushable up to 25 mils thickness; room-temperature cure
- Excellent adhesion to common aircraft substrates
Application Properties (A-1/2, 25 °C / 50% RH)
- Colour: Part A black, Part B white, mixed grey
- Mix ratio by weight A : B = 15 : 100
- Application life 1/2 hour; tack-free <16 hours; cure to 30 Shore A 36 hours
Performance (typical)
- Cured specific gravity 1.45; ultimate hardness 50 Shore A; soluble chromate 4%
- Peel strength on anodised aluminium (MIL-A-8625) 28 pli; titanium 29 pli (primed with PR-148)
- Tensile strength 250 psi (1724 kPa)
- Low-temperature flexibility at -54 °C: no cracking or loss of adhesion
- Salt spray 670 hours (ASTM B117): no corrosion of substrate or sealant deterioration
