3M Edge Sealer 3950

3M™ Edge Sealer 3950 is a clear edge sealer designed for sealing film edges in heavily used areas. It is an acrylic/vinyl solution in xylene. It resists mild acids, mild alkalis and salts and has excellent water resistance; LD-4 hydraulic fluid will dissolve 3950 within one hour. It can be removed with isopropyl alcohol or 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Citrus Cleaner; as certain paint surfaces may be affected by the sealer and cleaners, test first in an inconspicuous area.

Typical Properties

• Minimum viscosity 300 cP; solids 46 ± 2.5%
• Application temperature (air and substrate) minimum 10 °C, up to 38 °C; service temperature after application −51 to 65 °C

Application

• Do not thin; use the supplied felt dauber or a 0.6 cm brush to cover approx. 5–10 mm of film and substrate
• Pull along the edge in a smooth, continuous motion with no gaps; use opened sealer within 2 hours
• Air dry for 24 hours before putting into service

Storage

• 4–40 °C, out of sunlight, in the original container; 2 years from manufacture, 1 year after opening
