Hernon® Ultrabond 773 is a single-component, tri-cure adhesive and conformal coating formulated for bonding glass to glass or glass to metal, and is also excellent for bonding and tacking many parts. It cures to a dry, hard surface under high-intensity UV light and can also be cured with heat above 93 °C (200 °F) or with EF Primer 56.
Typical Applications
- Bonding glass to glass and glass to metal; bonding phenolics
Typical Properties
- Resin: modified acrylic; appearance: clear–light yellow liquid; specific gravity 1.09
- Viscosity at 25 °C: 15,000–30,000 cP
- Cured: hardness 70–80 Shore D; temperature range −55 to 150 °C (−65 to 300 °F)
Curing
- UV (365 nm): ≤7 s with a US1000 medium-pressure mercury arc lamp at ½ in; ≤10 s with LED9 at ¼ in
- Fixture time: glass/glass and glass/steel by UV ≤5 s; grit-blasted steel with EF Primer 56 ≤30 s
- Heat cure: above 93 °C, at least 10 minutes for initial strength
Performance
- Block shear (ASTM D4501, UV 30 s + 24 h): glass–glass, glass–abraded steel and glass–abraded aluminium ≥500 psi; glass–grit-blasted steel ≥300 psi (substrate failure)
- Lap shear (ASTM D1002): grit-blasted steel with EF Primer 56, 24 h at 22 °C ≥2000 psi; cured 45 min at 95 °C, steel and aluminium ≥2000 psi
- Ageing (500 h): 123% of initial strength at 70 °C, 118% at 45 °C/95% RH, 114% at −18 °C
Use and Storage
- Light sensitive: minimise exposure to daylight and artificial light during storage and handling; dispense through black feed lines
- Check plastics for stress-cracking risk; not for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems
- 7–29 °C (45–85 °F) in unopened containers
