Zip-Chem® Sur-Prep® 3500-2 is a five-step surface prep kit that prepares bare exterior aluminium fuselage structure for corrosion protection, painting or sealing. Once applied, the conversion coating solution is clear on aluminium. It is for fuselage areas only and must not be used on interior structure, wing structure or fuel tanks (for interior structure use Sur-Prep® 3500-1).
Kit Contents
- Step 1: alkaline cleaning solution pad
- Steps 2 and 5: deionized water wipe and dry towel
- Step 3: Citra-Safe® deodorized solvent wipe and dry towel
- Step 4: conversion coating material (chromic acid mixture)
Application
- Remove loose paint and sealant with a micarta scraper and debris by vacuum; lightly abrade the area with the alkaline cleaner and Scotch-Brite™
- Wipe twice with the water wipe and dry; solvent clean with the solvent wipe and wipe dry before it evaporates
- Leave the conversion coating towel on the surface for 2–5 minutes without letting it dry; neutralize with deionized water and dry
- Both mating surfaces must be cleaned and conversion coated; apply paint or sealant within 2 hours if required
- Dispose of used towels as hazardous waste in a sealed bag with the air removed (dried towels may spontaneously combust)
