AN2102-2 is a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin used as the methylene acceptor in the resorcinol-formaldehyde-silica adhesion system. Used together with a methylene donor, it effectively bonds rubber to various reinforcing materials. It contains no free formaldehyde, and with less than 15% free resorcinol it reduces fuming and weight loss during compounding compared with resorcinol monomer.
Specification
- Appearance: dark red-brown pastilles
- Softening point 99–114 °C; weight loss (105 °C, 2 h) ≤0.7%
- Free resorcinol 12–15%; pH (50% alcohol solution) 4–6
Application
- Adhesion promoter for synthetic fabric or plated wire reinforcements in rubber for tyres, conveyor belts, drive belts, damping and anti-vibration rubber and industrial components
- Used in resorcinol-formaldehyde-silica or resorcinol-formaldehyde-silica-cobalt systems with a methylene donor such as hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) or hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM)
- Recommended ratio AN2102-2 : methylene donor 60:40; about 1–3 parts of each in the compound
Packaging and Storage
- 25 kg net in paper bags lined with polyethylene, or plastic bags
- Store in a cool, dry warehouse to avoid moisture absorption and agglomeration; shelf life 12 months from manufacture
