PPG PR-1432-GP is a corrosion inhibitive, elastomeric flexible primer. Service temperature is −54 to 121 °C (−65 to 250 °F), with intermittent excursions up to 135 °C (275 °F). It acts as an effective barrier against the common causes of corrosion on aluminium alloys or between dissimilar metals. It is a two-part, dichromate cured polysulfide compound applied by spray or brush. It is not recommended for use without a topcoat.
Application Properties (BMS 5-95 and PRC-DeSoto test methods)
- Colour: Part A dark amber, Part B grey, mixed greenish grey; mix ratio by weight A:B 6.65:100
- Base viscosity (Brookfield #4 at 10 rpm) 12 P (1.2 Pa·s)
- At 25 °C, 50% RH: application life 1 hour; tack free under 6 hours; 40 Shore A in 72 hours
Performance (cured 14 days at 25 °C)
- Specific gravity 1.45; non-volatile content 70%; ultimate hardness 50 Shore A; chromate content 2.7%
- Recommended wet thickness 3–5 mils
- No cracking or loss of adhesion at −54 °C; no softening, blistering or shrinkage under heat; does not affect the cure of BMS 10-60 exterior polyurethane
Mixing and Storage
- Part B tends to settle; stir to uniform consistency before adding Part A and mix on a paint shaker for 3 minutes upright + 3 minutes inverted
- For spraying, thin after mixing up to 60% by volume (5 parts mix : 3 parts) with 50% MEK / 50% toluene; adjust the MEK/toluene ratio to the application temperature
- Two-part kits; at least 6 months at 5–27 °C (40–80 °F) in unopened containers
