Momentive RTV577 is a low temperature, two-part silicone elastomer. It is supplied ready to use with a base compound and DBT (dibutyl tin dilaurate) as the standard curing agent; other catalysts are available for deep section cure, faster cure and automated mixing. It retains elastomeric properties continuously from −115 °C to 204 °C and up to 260 °C for short periods. Work time and cure rate can be varied by the amount and type of curing agent; it cures at room temperature, is solvent free, and offers excellent adhesion with primer and excellent release properties. It is a white paste. It is used for cast-in-place heat shielding, thermal insulation, low and high temperature bonding, and encapsulation of electrical assemblies.
Typical Properties
- White paste; base viscosity 700,000 cps; specific gravity 1.35
- With 0.5% DBT, work time 2 hours and cure time 24 hours at 25 °C
- Hardness 48 Shore A; tensile strength 31 kg/cm² (440 psi); elongation 150%; shrinkage 0.65%
- Dielectric strength 18.5 kV/mm; thermal conductivity 0.31 W/m·K
